Stunning photos from the Bush Center's Oscar de la Renta exhibit
The George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, Texas, is currently hosting a major retrospective on storied American designer Oscar de la Renta, and the photos so far are absolutely breathtaking. The exhibit, a brainchild of former First Lady (and frequent ODLR-wearer) Laura Bush, opened to the public on July 19th, with 64 of Mr. de la Renta's archived gowns.
Worn by celebrities, socialites, and First Ladies, the gowns span five decades of the designer's work, from his origins, to his recent runways creations, and each one is exquisitely crafted. According to the Bush Center, the retrospective displays ODLR's First Lady creations for the likes of Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Reagan, as well as Jenna Bush's wedding dress. You may also recognize old red carpet gowns among the display -- glittering stunners worn by everyone from Amy Adams, to Anne Hathaway, to Carrie Underwood.
Especially cool to see are the designs from ODLR's tenure at Balmain, where he crafted gorgeous couture looks made-to-order for his clients' specific measurements. Aside from Parisian, ODLR's strong global influence is explored, with featured gowns reflecting the silhouettes, colors, and embellishments found in countries from Russia to Spain. Of course, the inspiration Mr. de la Renta finds in gardens was not missed by the exhibit's curators, with floral dresses out in full effect.
