7 home decor trends inspired by the runway

Prabal Gurung sent black on black leather looks down his Fall 2013 runway, and it is a look that is easy to replicate at home. For a major statement opt for black lacquer floors (a favorite decor trick of Kanye West's). For an easier decor update look for black lacquer home accessories like polished black boxes to store everything from kitchen gear to your bills.

Marco Zanini was clearly channeling 1950s glamour with his Fall 2013 collection for Rochas. It is a trend that is resonating in the design world as well. Patterned wallpaper is having a huge moment including floral and toile prints. Aren't brave enough to do an entire room? Turn your closet into a jewel box with super-feminine wallpaper. Looking for a quick update? Toile decorative pillows will do the trick.

Pink is no longer reserved just for the warmer months thanks to Carven designer Guillaume Henry, whose statement pink coats are undoubtedly fall's "it" item. We are loving pink for the home too, just keep in mind the color is best when used in unexpected ways. Pink walls or quirky pink upholstered furniture will give your home a fun Hollywood Regency feeling without seeming too saccharine.

It was hard to escape fur on fall's runways. One of our favorite takes on the trend was Marc Jacobs' fur scarves. Luckily it is a trend that will work in your home too. Whether you are opting for real or faux fur, fur pillows or blankets are great home accent pieces. And seriously, who wouldn't want to cuddle up underneath a fur blanket come fall?

Miuccia Prada gave a modern take to 1940s screen sirens on the Fall 2013 Prada runway. Take a cue from film noir's black and white visual style when updating your home this fall. Our favorite way to get on trend is by using oversized black and white photos like the one in the living room above. Take note: it is surprisingly affordable to get photos blown up in size and it makes a major statement.

Clubby cable knit sweaters were abundant on The Row's Fall 2013 runway, and it is a look that feels just as fresh with home decor. Be it plaid, alpine wood accents, or even cable-knit accent pillows and blankets, consider updating a room in your house to look just a bit like an Aspen ski lodge come fall.

The fashion runways are a good source of inspiration not just for picking out the latest shoes to wear, but also for figuring out what the latest home trends are going to be.

With that in mind we sourced the Fall 2013 runways for our favorite trends from designers including Prada and The Row with an eye for what would also work well in the home. From black on black to American pastoral, these fashion trends will be sure to give your home decor just the right amount of edge. And don't think you will need to do a complete overhaul either. Consider these trends as a source of inspiration for quick updates.
