UCLA Performs 1st “Breathing Lung” Transplant
Doctors at UCLA have made the first successful transplant using what is called a “breathing lung.” Last November, Fernando Padilla got the call that a pair of desperately-needed donor lungs was available. Doctors used an experimental device designed to keep the lungs working normally during transportation. They say the “breathing lungs” are the future of transplants.
