Rescuers Rush to Save China Miners

Rescuers in China have stepped up efforts to reach 12 missing workers, trapped deep in a mine in northeastern China since last Friday. Emergency crews are pumping water out of the flooded coal mine. A total of 70 miners were working in the mine when they were pinned down by water pouring in. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said 58 workers managed to escape. Local authorities said rescuers have pumped out some 15,000 cubic metres of water, but 20,000 metres remain in the mine.
