Eryn Gilchrist is challenging a politician who called a Parkland shooting survivor “a skinhead lesbian.” Gilchrist is running against GOP Maine State House candidate Leslie Gibson after he tweeted insults at two parkland shooting survivors, including Emma Gonzalez. The tweet stated, “There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re frothing at the mouth moonbat.” He also called David Hogg a “bald faced liar.” Gibson was running unopposed when he made the comments — that’s when Gilchrist stepped up. She stated, “After reading Mr. Gibson’s comments I thought that the people of Greene and Sabattus deserved a representative who will respect people and try to work through their differences to make our lives better.” Gonzalez later tweeted, “Eyrn all I can say is Thank You.” The 28-year-old from Maine works for a medical device company. She has never held office before, but she has lots of support, including from the Maine Democratic Party and the Speaker of the Main House. Gibson has sent out an apology to Gonzalez, stating, “I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you. It was wrong and unacceptable. You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and understanding to you.” Gilchrist will campaign against Gibson until the November election.
