Filmmaker Trey Edward Shults' autobiographical film, Krisha, was a hit at SXSW and has since been accepted into the Cannes Film Festival and won an Independent Spirit Award for best film shot for under $500,000.In the film, which looks almost more like a home movie, Shults cast his real-life family in an attempt to retell the story of Nica, his drug addicted cousin who tragically died of an overdose in 2012 following a painful family reunion.
