Project Brings Free Meals to Black Trans People

Recognizing the many food deserts in New York City - especially in communities of color - Ianne Stewart, Nyla Samson and Meliq Zaddy wanted to tackle the issue. The idea for the Okra Project was born over the holidays, as a way to bring fresh, healthy and free meals to those who otherwise couldn't afford them. After a meeting, they put out a request to raise funds. They thought they'd only collect $1,000. By the end of the week, they had $6,000.'s Stephanie Officer has more.
