In 1993, teacher Erin Gruwell assigned a group of at-risk students in Long Beach, California, to read “The Diary of a Young Girl,” by Anne Frank, and keep a journal of their own. The assignment sparked a movement and changed her students’ lives. Hear from Gruwell and her former students Latilla Cain and Carlos Barragan.
