2021 marks the 25-year anniversary of the iconic golf-comedy movie Happy Gilmore. To commemorate it, Tiger Woods joined a group of golfers to practice the title character’s signature swing.

In a video from TaylorMade Golf, Woods joins such golfing stars as Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Wolff, donning customized No. 79 hockey jerseys that Gilmore wore in the movie.

The Happy Gilmore swing requires a moving start before making contact with the ball. Some of the golfers took the challenge seriously, while others didn’t.

Woods being the competitive man he is though, he took it very seriously and made sure to hit the ball perfectly when it was hit turn. After making contact with the ball, his hit reaches an apex of 104 feet before traveling over 250 feet into the green.

But it was Rory McIlroy who stole the show. Despite rolling up his sleeves and going for the ball with all of his might, the ball sailed completely right, and into the trees, out of the frame of the camera.

There was never a sequel made to Happy Gilmore and the aren’t believed to be any plans for it.

But if Adam Sandler ever gets around to resurrecting the beloved IP, it’s clear that Happy Gilmore would have a lot of strong contenders for the Pro Golf Tour Championship.

Maybe Tiger Woods himself would sign on for the project.
