Video of Kate Middleton Discussing the Power of Proper Photography Resurfaces Amid Editing Scandal

As theories swirl about the Princess of Wales' whereabouts following a series of suspicious sightings—or lack thereof—and, most recently, her Photoshop debacle, a previous interview in which Kate Middleton, quite ironically, talks about the power of unfiltered photography has resurfaced.

The then-Duchess of Cambridge sat down with This Morning in May 2020 to chat about her exhibition with the National Portrait Gallery. Titled "Hold Still," the gallery featured one hundred snapshots showcasing "the nation’s experience of life during the coronavirus lockdown."

It's quite a contrast to the royal, who considers herself an "amateur photographer," today. While her apology for the editing snafu that shook even the world's top news agencies may have appeased Whoopi Goldberg, most still couldn't believe that the royal family would post such an error-filled photo while the world was so worried about her well-being. With the throwback footage, it seems that even the princess would agree—making this situation all the more strange.

In the throwback footage, the princess spoke of "learn[ing] along the way" as she took up the hobby of photography, especially in the height of the Covid lockdown. "One of the fantastic things about photography is really capturing that moment, so it's not staged setting, it's not setting it up perfectly..." she said. "It's really capturing those moments that feel real to you."

"That's the power of photography," she added. "It can capture a moment and tell a story."

Unfortunately, the story her latest seems to tell is that something is wrong. Theories range from compositing multiple versions from the same photoshoot to generating the snapshot via AI to imposing a cover photo from a previous magazine photo shoot over Prince William's body.

Middleton hasn't officially been seen since she underwent abdominal surgery in January. Internet sleuths have posed reasonable uncertainties over the reported sightings of her, demanding more credible information as to her whereabouts despite the palace's insistence that they wouldn't be sharing anything about her until she returned to her royal duties sometime after the Easter holiday.

The princess seemed to try to alleviate the conspiracies running rampant with the family portrait posted over the weekend featuring Middleton surrounded by her three children, but when eagle-eyed fans noticed a number of errors in the editing of the photo, Middleton was forced to admit that she does "occasionally experiment with editing" and offered "apologies for any confusion" caused.

Unfortunately, the confusion is only mounting from here.
