VIDEO: Fiend clobbers two Korean-American women with cinderblock in Baltimore

A man is charged with assault after being caught on security video clobbering two Asian women repeatedly with a cinderblock as the sisters were closing their west Baltimore liquor store.

It’s a hellish two-and-a-half minutes, and it encapsulates what Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) people have been increasingly undergoing.

The Korean-American women, 66 and 67, were closing Wonderland Liquors for the day on Sunday when the man dove through the door and jumped on one of them just before 11 p.m., The Baltimore Sun reported. The attack left one with 25 stitches on her head, and black eyes, and the other woman with bruising and contusions.

Daryl Doles, 50, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, police told NBC News. Authorities did not say whether it would be treated as a hate crime.

The brutal beatdown struck a nerve. A GoFundMe site for them has raised $60,000 of its $25,000 goal, and the incident caught the attention of state officials, all the way up to the top.

“I was outraged. It’s just another example of this violent outburst and attacks on Asians all across the country,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said after seeing the video, according to WBAL-TV. “We’re going to get to the bottom of this. We already have state police working in conjunction with the city to investigate.”

The women are being represented by Robert Hur, former United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, through the newly formed pro-bono initiative launched last month, the Alliance for Asian American Justice.

“We will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure that the attacker is brought to justice,” Hur said, according to WMAR-TV. “While we are still learning the facts, one thing is clear, such shocking acts of violence against fellow members of our neighborhoods cannot go on. The family is grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and support. I urge everyone to do all we can to raise awareness and to speak out against bias, hate, and violence against any members of our city and community, including Asian Americans.”
