Sunday night, the Colorado Rockies released a statement on what appeared to be a truly appalling incident involving one of their fans and Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson.

Based on game audio, the fan appeared to be yelling the N-word at Brinson, who is Black.

“The Colorado Rockies are disgusted at the racial slur by a fan directed at the Marlins’ Lewis Brinson during the ninth inning of Sunday’s game. Although the subject was not identified prior to the end of the game, the Rockies are still investigating this incident,” the statement reads.

“The Rockies have zero tolerance for any form of racism or discrimination, and any fan using derogatory language of any kind will be ejected and banned from Coors Field.”

Was the fan actually yelling the N-word, though?

New videos have emerged on social media on Monday, appearing to indicate that the fan was yelling “Dinger” – the name of the Rockies mascot.

In the following video, the fan isn’t even looking in Brinson’s direction. Instead, he is looking in the direction of the Rockies mascot.

The Rockies have yet to follow up on their Sunday evening statement. The MLB franchise is likely still investigating the incident.

Hopefully we’ll get more clarity on what really happened soon.
