VIDEO: Authorities search for vehicle that plunged into Cedar River

Apr. 30—No injuries reported

The Austin Fire Department and law enforcement are looking for a vehicle that plunged into the Cedar River just above Mill Pond in downtown Austin Tuesday morning.

According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan at the scene, the vehicle went in around 7:30 a.m. Video from the scene shows two occupants climbing out of the windows as the vehicle floats in the Cedar and later sinking.

Both occupants were uninjured and told authorities that they were blinded by the early morning sun and went in off of Hormel Drive.

Efforts to even find the vehicle were compounded by the lack of visibility and muck at the bottom of the river. A dive team was in route to help locate the vehicle.
