Vicky White, corrections officer accused of helping inmate escape, died by suicide: coroner

Vicky White, the Alabama corrections official accused of a years-long jailhouse romance with murder suspect Casey White before the two escaped, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday night.

White’s death has officially been ruled a suicide.

The 56-year-old corrections officer was found injured Monday afternoon in Evansville, Ind., inside the getaway car after police, tipped off by a car wash attendant, rammed their vehicle, causing it to flip. She died hours later at the hospital.

When police finally tracked them down, the pair had at least four handguns, an AR-15 and about $29,000 in cash in their car, Vanderburgh County, Ind., Sheriff Dave Wedding said Tuesday.

“[Casey White] said he was probably going to have a shootout at the stake of both of them losing their lives,” Wedding said.
