Veterans Day: Memorials and events in the Lower Hudson Valley

Communities across the Lower Hudson Valley will honor veterans this weekend with ceremonies and memorials. Here are many of them.

Westchester

Westchester County: County Executive George Latimer and Veterans Service Agency director Ron Tocci will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial in Ladson Park's Arboretum. The event will be livestreamed on Westchester County's Facebook page. 2610 NY-35, Katonah.

White Plains: The city's annual ceremony for local veterans will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at White Plains City Hall at 10:30 a.m. 225 Main St., White Plains.

New Rochelle: The American Legion Post 8 and the New Rochelle Veterans Advisory Committee will hold the city's annual ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The event will feature guest speakers like Steve Alpert, a New Rochelle native and the author of “Proudly She Served," and Tom Riley, a retired FDNY chief who works with Tunnels to Towers. Also, 101-year-old veteran Lee Fatum will be honored at the ceremony. 112 North Ave., New Rochelle

  • Empire Harley Davidson will host a Veterans Day event at their New Rochelle store on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Veterans will receive a free "Proud to be a Veteran" pin. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. 8 Industrial Lane, New Rochelle.

  • Iona University's men's basketball team will dedicate their first home game to local veterans on Friday Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Veterans can use the coupon code VETS23 to redeem up to four complimentary tickets. 715 North Ave., New Rochelle.

Mount Vernon: A memorial will be held at the St. Paul's Church National Site on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., honoring veterans who are buried at the historic landmark. Ranger Michael Callahan will host a talk at 2 p.m. about American military history. 897 S. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon.

Mamaroneck: The American Legion Post 90 will host the annual town ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will follow at the Legion Hall. 189 Prospect Ave., Mamaroneck.

Port Chester: Joey's Sports Bar and Grill will host a live music fundraiser for veterans and first responders on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. Guests can get a weekend pass for both nights for $29. 538 Willett Ave., Port Chester

Rye: The American Legion Post 128 will host Rye's annual ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in front of Rye City Hall. The ceremony will honor two local fallen veterans, Charles Moxhay and Elliott Eakin, who flew a fighter plane together in World War II. 1051 Boston Post Rd., Rye

Harrison: The town's annual parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. The parade will start at the West Harrison Fire Department and end at the veteran's memorial, where a ceremony will be held. 95 Lake St., West Harrison.

Hartsdale: The Veterans Advisory committee will host the village's annual ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at DeSanti Plaza. 229 E. Hartsdale Ave., Hartsdale.

Valhalla: The American Legion Post 1038 will host an honor guard at the Valhalla Monuments and Gazebo starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, with a formal ceremony at 11 a.m. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at the Legion hall. 27 Legion Drive, Valhalla.

Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow: The Central Veterans Committee of the Tarrytowns will host the town's annual ceremony at Patriot's Park at 10:30 a.m. US-9 and Broadway, Tarrytown.

Bedford: The Bedford Hills Fire Department will host the town's annual Veteran's Day commemoration on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Bedford Hills Community House. The event will have food, drinks and live music, as well as activities for kids. The Veterans Advisory Committee is asking families to send in pictures of their veteran relatives to veterans@bedfordny.gov. Pictures will be showcased in a slideshow at the ceremony. 74 Main St., Bedford Hills.

Armonk: The village's annual ceremony will be hosted by the Armonk American Legion Post 1097 on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. 35 Bedford Road, Armonk.

Somers: The village's annual parade is Saturday Nov. 11 at 10:15 a.m. Parade line up begins at 9:45 at Somers Middle School. A ceremony at Ivandell Cemetery and refreshments will follow the parade. 250 US-202, Somers.

Cortlandt: The village will host their annual ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center. 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor.

Croton-on-Hudson: The American Legion Fox Eklof Post 5050 will host the annual village ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Corners. The alternate location in case of inclement weather is the gym of Holy Mary Church at 12 Grand St. Veterans Corners, Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson.

Hastings-on-Hudson: James Daley VFW Post 200 and Admiral Farragut Post 1195 will host the village ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in VFW Park. Refreshments will follow the ceremony. Warburton Ave., Hastings-on Hudson.

Irvington: The village's annual ceremony will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza. Memorial Park, 11 Dows Lane, Irvington.

Lewisboro: The town will host a day of commemorative events, starting with a breakfast at the South Salem Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. A ceremony will follow at the Lewisboro Town House at 11 a.m. Boy Scout Troop 101 will host a turkey dinner at Onatru Farm at 3 p.m. 1190 NY-35, South Salem.

Yorktown: The town's annual parade will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. The parade route will start at Lakeland High School and end at the J.C. Hart Library. 1349 E. Main St., Shrub Oak.

Putnam

Southeast: The Brewster American Legion Argonne 71 will host the town's annual ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m. at Southeast Veterans Park in Electrazone Field. Railroad Ave. and Morningthorpe Ave., Brewster.

Rockland

Suffern: The village will host their annual parade on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in front of Suffern Village Hall. A ceremony and barbecue at the Soldier's Monument will follow the parade. 61 Washington Ave., Suffern.

Orangetown: The town will host a drive-by lunch at Veteran's Memorial Park in Orangeburg on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All veterans and active-duty military are welcome to receive a box lunch. Available lunches are limited, so RSVP is required at veteran@orangetown.com.

Stony Point: The Rockland County Volunteer Firefighter's Association will host a firefighter veteran's recognition night on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Wayne Hose Co. #1. Both veterans and active servicemembers are welcome. 25 N. Liberty Drive, Stony Point.

Pomona: The 30th annual Rockland County Marine Corps birthday luncheon will be hosted by Krucker's Catering and Picnic Grove on Friday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. Entry is $50 per person in advance and $55 at the door. Call (845) 354-9832 to RSVP. 81 Call Hollow Rd., Pomona.

Nanuet: The Nanuet Civic Association will host a ceremony at Giraudin Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Prospect Street, near Nanuet Train Station.

Tappan: Raymond W. Meola VFW Post 1615 will host a ceremony at the Walkway of Heroes on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Independence Avenue and Lowe Lane, Tappan.

Congers: The town will host its annual ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. 66 Lake Rd., Congers.

Nyack: VFW Post 9215 will host a flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11:11 a.m. Refreshments will follow the ceremony. 250 Birchwood Ave., Upper Nyack.

West Nyack: The Buffalo Soldiers and Friends of Mt. Moor Cemetery will host a service on Saturday, Nov. 11 at noon. Mt. Moor Cemetery, next to the Palisades Mall, West Nyack.
