Veterans Day events from Miami Beach to Pinecrest, Doral to Sunny Isles Beach

Miami Beach goes all out for its 14th annual Veterans Day parade and celebration.

The start time of the event is 11:11 a.m. meant to coincide with the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month originally intended to commemorate the armistice ending World War I, city officials said in a news release.

Yep, there’s that level of detail.

Here’s what you can expect at South Beach’s event: Veteran and military groups, marching bands and an F-16 flyover. Local businesses and community organizations will also celebrate with the crowds gathering along Ocean Drive beginning at Fifth Street.

“Miami Beach has a long history of support for our veterans and members of the armed services,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said in a statement. “We want every veteran and their families to know they are important to this city and to all of our residents.”

Hudak refers to how during World War II, Miami Beach provided the military access to beaches and hotels to train its troops. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion organized parades for more than half a century since to salute the troops.

The parade route is on Ocean Drive from Fifth to 15th streets. At noon, Lummus Park hosts the All Veteran Parachute Team with sky high demonstrations. The event continues in Lummus Park with a wreath-laying ceremony and a free family picnic, as well as a presentation of the colors by the Miami Beach Police and Fire Department Honor Guards and a moment of silence in honor of the city’s First World War Armistice Day tradition.

Can’t make it? There will be a livestream on the city’s Facebook page.
