Veterans, active military can get free Veterans Day breakfast, grocery discounts at Hy-Vee

Veterans and active military personnel can sit down to a free breakfast at Hy-Vee on Friday, Nov. 10, to mark Veterans Day.

The grocery chain, stretching across eight states, will provide a buffet-style meal between 6 and 10 a.m. on this year's federally recognized holiday before Veterans Day arrives on Saturday.

Veterans and active military members can also take 15 percent off grocery purchases that Friday when they shop at Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh Market or Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh stores, according to a news release.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based company is taking several other steps to honor veterans, especially during November.

Through Nov. 15, its Hy-Vee Homefront Round Up fundraiser matches customer donations up to $100,000, with proceeds directed to four organizations: Hope for the Warriors, Operation First Response, American Red Cross and the Puppy Jake Foundation.

Hy-Vee also emphasizes hiring veterans and active military personnel through its Hiring Heroes initiative. Focused benefits include a paid Veterans Day off, relocation help and more, according to the release.
