Venom 3 has been given a release date, in the midst of other Sony films being delayed due to the strikes going on in Hollywood.

Variety reports that the third film in Tom Hardy's superhero franchise will be released on July 12, 2024. This is earlier than the previously-reported release date of October 2024.

This is also a change from the first two films' October release dates – although it could be subject to change depending on how long the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike goes on for.

Filming for the movie had already begun, but was reportedly put on pause when actors went on strike for the first time in decades, joining writers on picket lines. As for the script, it was reported that this was written before the WGA strike action began back in May.

The announcement of Venom 3's release date comes alongside the news that Sony's Kraven the Hunter and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel have been delayed out of this year and will be released in 2024 instead.

While the former is believed to be pretty much finished, actors cannot promote studio films while on strike, and it looks like the studio would rather wait until they can.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has also been delayed indefinitely, since the actors weren't able to record all of their voice lines before the strike began.

As to what could happen in the third Venom movie, Let There Be Carnage set up Stephen Graham playing the character Toxin, although the actor has remained tight-lipped about if that's the case or not.

Meanwhile, Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor have joined the cast as unknown characters, while we already know that Hardy will return as Eddie Brock.
