Vehicle kills woman and injures man at park by Fashion Fair in Fresno, police say

A woman was killed and a man was injured Friday night after they were struck by a vehicle by Fashion Fair in Fresno.

The incident happened at 8:15 p.m. when officers saw a vehicle without its headlights on and attempted to make a traffic stop, Fresno police Lt. Zeb Price said.

The vehicle didn’t stop, Price said, and a short pursuit began before one of the sergeants canceled the chase.

The vehicle continued to flee west on Santa Ana through the Fashion Fair parking lot and hopped a curb before striking the two victims at 8:25 p.m. at Cary Park behind the baseball backstop.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old man was taken to Community Regional Center and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Price said the suspect’s vehicle continued to flee through the parking lot and exited before going into a neighborhood west of Fashion Fair. The vehicle collided and got stuck between a pole and a tree at Santa Ana Avenue and Thesta Street.
