VARA opens lawn near Balloon Fiesta

May 22—A chilled glass of wine, an open field and a New Mexican sky.

VARA Winery and Distillery announced that it has opened its lawn for the summer season that is part of its revamped tasting room near Balloon Fiesta Park. The new location, at 315 Alameda NW, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"The lawn at our Balloon Fiesta Park tasting room is an incredible spot to lay in the sun, laugh with friends or spend quality time with family while sipping on craft New Mexican drinks," JP Clement, the CEO and general manager, said in a news release. "We are thrilled to have one of the best summer spots in Albuquerque."

People can bring their own food or order New Mexican-made snacks, including Cornivore Popcorn, Eldora Chocolate and The Daily Jerky beef jerky.

Children and well-behaved, leashed pets are also allowed.

VARA is an Albuquerque winery and craft distillery that was founded in 2016.

It has two other tasting rooms in Santa Fe and Nob Hill. VARA makes wine along with brandy, gin, rum and vodka.

Its grapes are from New Mexico, California and Spain.
