Vanderbilt football lands transfer commitment from Minnesota OL Cade McConnell

Cade McConnell, an offensive lineman who was at Minnesota, has committed to transfer to Vanderbilt football, he announced on social media Friday.

McConnell, a redshirt sophomore from Choctaw, Oklahoma, is 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds. His father, Aaron McConnell, was with the Tennessee Titans briefly on the practice squad and spent 2004-07 with the AFL Nashville Kats.

Cade McConnell never appeared in a game with the Golden Gophers.

Vanderbilt badly needs more depth on the offensive line after playing with eight scholarship linemen at times during the spring. McConnell projects as a rotational player on the interior who could help especially after Jake Ketschek's medical retirement.

McConnell is the first transfer commitment for the Commodores during the spring window after the roster saw massive turnover during the fall. On the offensive line, starters Bradley Ashmore and Julian Hernandez both opted not to use their remaining eligibility as Hernandez retired from football and Ashmore declared for the NFL draft.

Vanderbilt also brought in a transfer commitment during the fall period on the offensive line with Steven Losoya from Mississippi State.
