  • The Food Network star commemorated the occasion by sharing an uplifting video on Instagram.

  • Bertinelli gave fans insight into “the hardest six years” of her life, but said she is “grateful” for her birthday.

Valerie Bertinelli turned 63 a few days ago and is loving every moment. In a celebratory Instagram video, the Food Network star shared that she is beginning this new chapter feeling appreciative and joyous after some of the “hardest” years of her life.

In the raw video, Bertinelli speaks to her fans from the Amsterdam airport. “I am so over the moon grateful on my birthday this year! 🙏🏻🤍,” she captioned the video. “I have survived the hardest six years of my life and now I’m in Amsterdam (one of my favorite places on earth with sweet special memories 🥹) And on Thursday, I get to watch my son open for Metallica! 🤘🏻🎤 🎸”

“Life is good. ✨” Bertinelli concluded.

It was clearly all positive vibes for Bertinelli, who excitedly spun her suitcase around and kicked her feet with joy in the clip. She even chose the song “Grateful” by Connor Price to accompany the video. “Yeah, I woke up feeling grateful, thankful. Everything that I prayed for, came so I be feeling so grateful,” echoed in the background.

Fans were overjoyed to see Bertinelli so happy on her birthday. “Happy birthday Valerie! you deserve happiness and love 💗 I hope your upcoming week goes amazing,” one fan wrote. “You are such an inspiration to me when I need to remind myself that yes indeed… Life is good,” another added, while one fan simply wrote, “The best is yet to come!”

A few weeks prior to Bertinelli’s birthday celebration, the star posted an inspirational, emotional video to her feed, featuring a montage of happy and sad moments from her life, powerful audio playing in the background.

“You can’t take down a woman who uses the worst things that ever happened to her as fuel for her greatest victories,” the video declares. “A woman like that is unstoppable. You can strip away everything she has and she’ll walk away and go get it again.”

It’s true—while Bertinelli has found her light again, she has certainly been through a lot over the last few years. Just under a year ago, the star revealed “a lot of challenges, a lot of heartbreak, a lot of crazy stuff is going on in my life right now,” on an episode of Today With Hoda and Jenna where she discussed becoming healthier on the inside.

Bertinelli was likely referring to her divorce from Tom Vitale, as well as the loss of her former husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen, who died of throat cancer in 2020. Despite her mental health having “snowballed,” Bertinelli said during the episode that she knows it will get better.

In the last few years, the star has also been open about her struggle with body image and her relationship with food. “I have a lot of decades of thinking I have to look a certain way for people to accept me and to like me,” Bertinelli previously shared in an interview about body image, declaring she is “done with the d*amn scale” while on her self-acceptance journey.

We love Bertinelli’s outlook on 63, and can’t wait to see what the year brings the star. Happy birthday, Valerie!
