Harlequins' Argentina prop Santiago Garcia Botta will retire from professional rugby at the end of the season.

Garcia Botta is in his fifth season at Quins and has played 62 times for the club as well as winning 34 caps for the Pumas.

He was part of the Harlequins squad that won the 2021 Premiership final against Exeter and previously played for Super Rugby side Jaguares and French club Stade Francais.

“After much thought and reflection with my family, I have made the decision to retire from professional rugby," the 31-year-old told the club website.

"I believe it's the right time to do so, and I want to thank everyone who has supported me, in particular my family and friends.

“I’m now looking forward to embarking on a new stage in my life back home in Argentina, for which I've been preparing for several years by training as a strength and conditioning coach.”

Harlequins director of rugby Billy Millard added: "We’re sad to see Santi retire but we wish him and his family the very best with their move home to Argentina.

“He’s worked incredibly hard for his opportunities and has been an excellent professional throughout his time at Quins."

Utility back Cameron Anderson has signed a new contract with Harlequins for an undisclosed period.

The 24-year-old has played in nine matches for Quins this season including starting Premiership wins against Gloucester and Newcastle.

Anderson, who can play at full-back or on the wing, joined from London Scottish last summer and also spent a season with Wasps earlier in his career.

“Cam’s contribution this season has been excellent. He has been called upon at different times, performed well and is continuing to grow," said Millard.

Anderson joins scrum-half Danny Care and flanker Will Trenholm in agreeing new terms with the Premiership club this week.
