USDA says recalled ‘Miami Burgers’ weren’t inspected and might not be ‘Angus beef’

The box of “Miami Burgers” say they’re made with Angus beef and were USDA inspected, but 368 pounds of the burgers have been recalled from Florida stores because the USDA says the burgers weren’t inspected and the Angus beef claim is “unverifiable.”

The USDA notice calls the recalling company is “New Universal Nourishment” out of Miami Beach and says it’s owned by Jorge Ramon Rosales. State records say Rosales’ company is “New Universe Nourishment” and say it’s bounced from West Miami-Dade to Miami Beach to a Brickell office building over the last 16 months.

Rosales, when reached by phone, insisted, “The meat is OK. But the product is now out of the market.”

What’s been recalled are 2-pound boxes of Miami Burgers 6 Best Angus Beef with an expiration date of 2/27/2023 and 10-pound boxes of Miami Burgers Best Angus Beef with a production date of Feb. 4, 2022.

The boxes have “EST. 451B” inside the USDA inspection mark. But, the recall notice states, New Universal “is a distributor and is not authorized to apply the marks of inspection for Establishment 451B. The products also bear an unverifiable claim that they are certified Angus beef.”

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service got a complaint about the burgers being sold “with the mark of inspection for Est. 451B bearing labels that were not applied by the originating company.

“FSIS determined that the distributor repackaged and/or relabeled the beef patty products without the benefit of federal inspection and used the mark of inspection from an establishment without proper authorization.”

If you have these burgers in your refrigerator or freezer, return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. If you have questions, call Rosales at 305-753-1453.
