This Is Us stars respond to Sterling K Brown's first-ever Oscar nomination
Cast members from This Is Us have sent their congratulations to fellow star Sterling K Brown for his Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.
The actor, who played Randall Pearson on the drama, earned his first Academy Award nomination yesterday (January 23) for his turn in American Fiction.
The huge career achievement has now been celebrated by some of his This Is Us family, with on-screen mum Mandy Moore (Rebecca) taking to her Instagram Stories to write: “What a day!! Congrats and Love you, Sterling K Brown. You deserve it all!!!”

"Congratulations, Sterling K Brown," added Chrissy Metz (Kate) in her own post, while Chris Sullivan (Toby) said: “SKB! Win em all! Congratulations buddy!”
Show creator Dan Fogelman posted a picture of himself alongside Brown, writing on X (formerly Twitter): "Proof that I knew him when, and that I could always make him pretend laugh. Congrats @SterlingKBrown on your OSCAR NOMINATION! Wow!"
Brown himself has also shared his reaction to the news, saying in an Instagram video that his phone battery had died when the announcement came in.

Recalling what happened when he got his charge back, Brown told fans: "A brother has like 126 messages. And I'm like, how come I've got so many damn messages on my phone? I got nominated for an Oscar. It's crazy."
“I want to [say] thank you to the Academy," Brown continued. "For somebody who’s been watching the Oscars their whole life – I’ve never been."
He added: “Somebody told me it was history being made and that both Jeffrey [Wright] and I are the first time that two Black actors in the same movie for lead and supporting got nominated. So it’s nice to be part of a little bit of history, which is really, really cool.”

The biggest nominee this year was Oppenheimer, which scored 13 nods, followed by Poor Things with 11, Killers of the Flower Moon with 10, Barbie with eight and Maestro with seven.
The list has already stirred some controversy, however, notably with snubs for Barbie's Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in the Best Actress and Director categories – which has spurred co-stars including Ryan Gosling to criticise the decisions.
The 96th Academy Awards take place on Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. It will be broadcast on ITV in the UK.
