The US-Spec VW ID. Buzz Debut Is Set For June 2Volkswagen

Volkswagen first pulled the cover off of the ID. Buzz electric van concept all the way back in 2017 at the Detroit Auto Show. More than half a decade later, VW is finally ready to show off the production-ready, US-spec ID. Buzz model on June 2nd in Huntington Beach, California. The debut event will coincide with the brand’s all-new official holiday: International Volkswagen Bus Day.

In order to celebrate both the new holiday and the US debut of the ID. Buzz, VW is set to host a large event for both media and longtime fans of the brand alike in the Golden State. Considering no place on Earth has as strong of a connection to the old Bus as California, it feels like a fitting place for the debut to take place. The show will feature public facing elements, such as a cars and coffee event celebrating the Type 2 Bus, as well as other live entertainment. The automaker will even be bringing noted VW Bus aficionado and comedian Gabriel Iglesias to participate in the festivities. In order to allow as many people as possible to get in on the fun, VW will also stream programming via its social channels during the event.

“Whether you call them Buses, Bullis or Kombis, the legacy Type 2s have left on modern culture is unmatched,” said Cameron Batten, VW USA’s chief communications officer. “As we continue to introduce the T2’s 21st Century electric successor, the ID. Buzz, we’re thrilled to create this annual day of celebration for Volkswagen bus fans and enthusiasts everywhere.”

While the VW ID. Buzz is currently on sale across the Atlantic, the US-spec vehicles are slated to be somewhat different. Whereas the European models only come in short wheelbase configurations with two rows of seats, every US model will be a long wheelbase machine with a third row of seating. In Europe, the ID. Buzz provides up to 263 miles of range per charge by way of a 82 kWh battery pack. With an extra 10.6-inches of length leaving room for extra batteries in US models, that figure is expected to be higher on this side of the pond. Similarly, we expect higher output figures than the 201 hp and 229 lb-ft provided by the European models. ID. Buzz models are expected to go on sale in the United States in 2024, with more details and potential pricing information slated to come on June 2nd. Until the holiday comes and goes, we’re still stuck playing the waiting game.
