‘This Is Us’ in the Future: A Guide to Where Each Character Is in the Flash-Forwards

While “This Is Us” is a drama about multiple generations of a family, it also includes a mystery within its premise. In future scenes, it has been revealed that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) has been living in the home Kevin (Justin Hartley) built for her, as she gets older and her dementia gets worse. The family has seemingly gathered to say goodbye.

The flash-forwards, which take place about 10 to 15 years in the future judging by the age of Kevin’s twins, have filled in some blanks, while leaving other doors wide open.

One character that has appeared is Rebecca’s husband, Miguel (Jon Huertas), as it was revealed in a May episode that he died before she did.

Instead, Jack’s brother, Nicky (Griffin Dunne), is by her side. The show has confirmed that no, Nicky and Rebecca aren’t together, as he’s married to Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway), who is also there.

“Maybe Jack and Miguel are just, kind of, hanging out in heaven together,” Milo Ventimiglia recently said of his thoughts on Miguel. Some have also speculated that Rebecca believes Nicky is actually Jack, and the family has chosen to let her believe that.

So far, flash-forward scenes have not included Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Phillip (Chris Geere). During one scene, Toby (Chris Sullivan), who was hesitant to come, says that “they” are on their way, but it’s unknown who it is he’s referring to. That said, during the April 12 episode, it was revealed Kate is alive in the flash-forward — and many years down the road, as she and Phillip appear at adult Jack’s concert.

Another mystery that remains is who Kevin is married to. His twins are shown and he’s wearing a wedding ring, but viewers haven’t yet learned whether his wife is Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Madison (Caitlin Thompson) or someone fans haven’t met yet.

During Season 2, “This Is Us” revealed one character fans never thought they’d see in old-age makeup: Jack. Of course, the moment was a dream sequence Kate had of her parents renewing their vows. Still, Ventimiglia could put on that makeup one more time before the end — maybe in a vision by Rebecca?

“I think toward the end, we’re going to see all the sides of Jack. I think we’re going to understand who he was to his kids, understand who he was to his wife,” he hinted recently to Variety. “The show was so front-heavy with Jack. Now, we’ve really invested in the stories of the kids and Rebecca. I think that’s where it’s ultimately leading, those loops closing. We already know Jack. He’ll be there, he’ll be around. I think the different versions of him will be popping up.”
