US Eagle to open first South Valley branch next spring

Dec. 7—Residents of the South Valley will soon have a new place to bank, as US Eagle Federal Credit Union is on track to complete the renovation of a former bank on Isleta Boulevard.

The credit union, located at 3801 Isleta SW, the site of a former US Bank, is expected to open in March 2024, said spokeswoman Rachel Pierce.

"We are absolutely thrilled about the launch of our new South Valley branch," Marsha Majors, president and CEO of US Eagle, said in a statement. "There is high demand for accessible and affordable financial services in this area and US Eagle is excited to be supporting our local community."

The new credit union spans nearly 2,500 square feet and will feature both a drive-up ATM and video tellers. Pierce said the eight employees who will work at the branch will be bilingual because of the number of Spanish speakers in that part of the city.

Enterprise Builders Corp. and NewGround are working on the buildout for the project, Pierce said.

For US Eagle, the South Valley branch will be its 10th in New Mexico and seventh in Albuquerque. It also has branches in Bernalillo, Farmington and Santa Fe.

It will be the credit union's fifth branch opening in recent years. It opened a location on Juan Tabo Boulevard in 2021, followed by the opening of a remodeled location on Menaul Boulevard in 2022, as well as a location near the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center that same year. It most recently opened a location at 5420 Academy NE in February.

The credit union serves more than 95,000 members, Pierce said. She didn't have the number of members in the South Valley but said "there's been a request for this branch, this location for quite a long time." She added that the credit union is also looking to expand into Rio Rancho, though no date has been set on that expansion.

"There's... multiple factors that go into where new branches open and how fast they can open," she said.
