Urban Meyer had plenty to say about the Jaguars-Panthers trade during his press conference on Monday.

Jacksonville shipped cornerback CJ Henderson and a fifth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers on Monday morning. The Jaguars received tight end Dan Arnold and a third-round pick in return.

The Jaguars were expected to trade Henderson at some point this season, so this isn’t much of a surprise. Meyer had plenty to say about the move during his press conference on Monday.

Jacksonville’s head coach told reporters that the Jaguars traded Henderson because of Tyson Campbell’s progress so far this year. Because of it, they felt comfortable moving on from Henderson.

Meyer also added he’s excited for Henderson to get a “fresh start.”

“This is going to be a great fresh start for CJ and I think it’s going to be good for both of us – he missed a lot of games and we think this is good for both sides,” Meyer said.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were very high on C.J. Henderson coming out of college. They took the former Florida star with the ninth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. The selection didn’t work in Jacksonville’s favor.

Henderson has been one of the Jaguars’ most inconsistent players on the defensive side of the football. And now they’re already moving on from the former first-round pick.

Campbell, meanwhile, will assume a starting role on the Jaguars defense for the foreseeable future.
