Upscale mini golf-and-nightclub venue opens in Brickell with a great view of Miami

If a nightclub and a mini golf course met overlooking the city of Miami, fell in love and reproduced, the offspring of that union would be Puttshack.

The patented, high-tech mini golf experience has finally opened in Miami (its arrival was originally announced in February 2020, but the COVID pandemic had other plans). Now, the co-founders of Topgolf, Flight Club and AceBounce have finally opened the business at Brickell City Centre, the fourth U.S. spot for the business, which has locations in Boston, Atlanta and Chicago as well as four in the U.K.

The 27,000-square-foot property includes three nine-hole mini golf courses, plus an outdoor terrace that seats up to 96 people. Your view? The glittering lights of downtown Miami.

Here’s what is different about this mini golf, aside from its upscale setting. The “Trackaball” technology allows for automatic scoring — sorry, no cheating here — plus bonus point opportunities and interactive games at each hole.

You play nine holes for each game, which takes about 30 minutes. The games are complicated enough to be recommended for kids 7 and up; younger kids might struggle.

And yes, you can drink while you play. At 8 p.m., only 21 and older are allowed; the last family tee time is 7 p.m.

The menu leans toward shareable dishes, such as bao buns, Buffalo chicken or crab dip, potstickers and empanadas, but there are also flatbreads, salads, burgers and sandwiches. If you order a plate of Miami Tailpipes — smoked chimichurri pork, ham, cheese, black bean & grilled pineapple spring rolls — $1 will be donated to Girls Make Beats, a nonprofit that works to help female music producers, DJs and audio engineers.

Chris Rockwood, COO of Puttshack, expects the venue to attract families but also work colleagues looking for a new source of happy hour fun, date nights and company outings.

“Miami is known as a city to see and be seen and that perfectly aligns with the Puttshack brand,” he said in a statement.

The company plans to open a new location in St. Louis, with locations in Dallas, Denver, Houston, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Scottsdale scheduled to open in 2023.
