Upper Cleveland wreck leaves multiple injured

A Sunday evening wreck in the upper end of Cleveland County caused multiple serious injuries, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Trooper T. Gantt said the wreck happened around 5:30 p.m. on N.C. 18 when a Buick failed to stop at a stop sign near Belwood Lawndale Road and a Nissan traveling south on 18 crashed into the car.

Gantt said there were three people in each vehicle and one person from the Nissan and one from the Buick was airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The four other people were transported to Atrium Health Cleveland.

Gantt said when he called the Charlotte hospital Monday morning, one person was in stable condition and other one was preparing to go into surgery and would be in the ICU afterward.

He said he is still investigating the wreck and will be consulting the District Attorney’s Office about potential charges.

A second wreck not far from the first happened shortly after and left one person with injuries, according to the Cleveland County Highway Patrol office. The wreck occurred on Casar Lawndale Road and one person was airlifted to Charlotte, according to Highway Patrol. They were listed in stable condition Monday.
