‘Unthinkable’: Man kills 22-year-old pregnant mom and unborn child, Florida cops say

A 22-year-old pregnant mom thought she was going to a party before she was found dead in a Florida subdivision, officials said.

Now, a man is accused of shooting the woman, whose body was discovered next to an SUV in Tampa as her young son slept inside.

“Our homicide suspect did the unthinkable when he killed an innocent woman and her unborn child,” Lee Bercaw, interim chief of the Tampa Police Department, said in a Feb. 8 news release. “I hope this arrest brings some closure to the victim’s family who is mourning the loss of two loved ones.”

The suspect — 25-year-old Billy Adams — was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County jail. Police didn’t list attorney information for him in a news release.

The case dates to Jan. 30, when a body was found at about 10 p.m. on Pictoral Park Drive, inside the Easton Park subdivision, McClatchy News reported.

“Officers arrived to find a sleeping male toddler seated in a car seat in the back of a Ford EcoSport SUV and his mother, an adult woman in her 20s, deceased next to the vehicle with upper body trauma,” police wrote, adding that the child wasn’t hurt.

The boy’s mom was identified in news reports as Alana Sims.

Carli Williams, the woman’s sister, said Sims was five months pregnant at the time of her death. The two used to spend hours together at the beach and on trips, WTSP reported.

“That was my best friend,” Williams told the TV station. “I told her everything. We did everything together.”

Police believe Sims was “lured” to the crime scene before she was shot. Adams may have been the father of Sims’ unborn baby, and a possible motive is that he didn’t want to have a child, Maj. Mike Stout of the Tampa Police Department said in video WTVT shared from a Feb. 8 news conference.

Adams is a rapper with the stage name Ace NH, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He was charged with first-degree murder and killing of an unborn child by injury to mother, online jail records show.

“I can’t bring my daughter back, but at least we know that the monster that did this was (sent) behind bars,” Shahlevi Sims, the slain woman’s mother, told WTVT.
