Popular clothing brand Uniqlo is opening a second store in the Sacramento area.

The Japanese retailer signed a lease with Arden Fair shopping center on Feb. 10, the mall’s marketing director, Nathan Spradlin, confirmed in an email to The Sacramento Bee on Monday.

Uniqlo is “known for its innovative and high-quality casual wear,” he wrote in the email.

It’s the latest in a series of retailers to announce plans to move into the Arden Arcade mall.

Fast-fashion retailer H&M expects to open a location at Arden Fair — its first store in Sacramento — by the end of the year, The Bee reported in March.

“The addition of Uniqlo and H&M are part of a larger growth strategy, that will evolve over the next few years, to meet the needs of our community,” Spradlin said Monday.

What is Uniqlo?

Uniqlo is known for its affordable casual, contemporary clothing and accessories for women, men and children.

The retailer opened its first store in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1984.

Where will Arden Fair mall Uniqlo

Uniqlo will occupy a 11,500-square-foot space adjacent to Lululemon in the lower level of the mall, Spradlin said.

The store will take over “portions of the former Armani Exchange, Gap, and J.Crew spaces,” Spradlin said.

The Uniqlo store is set to open over the summer, he said.

In addition, Uniqlo plans to open a new location at Roseville’s Westfield Galleria.

Where are other store locations?

Uniqlo has a total of 19 stores across California, including locations in San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles, according to its website.
