Union City girls nab second at home invitational, Quincy finishes third

ATHENS - Due to unforeseen construction delays the teams slated to travel to Union City on Friday for the annual Union City Invitational instead took a small detour, heading to the welcoming embrace of Athens High School who so generously agreed to host this year’s event.

On the girls' side of the invitational, it was Harper Creek taking the win with 199 points, followed by the host squad from Union City in second with 101.5 points. Quincy finished in third place on the day with a score of 77.5 points.

Union City was led on the day by three-time gold medalist Nevada Gillons who had a dominant day. Gillons swept the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.73 seconds, the 300 hurdles in a time of 49.20, and the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 11 inches.

Rounding out the Charger effort with a top five finish was Attica Hoath, third place in the 200; Parker Williams, second place in the 400; Allison Gautsche, third place in the 1600 and third place in the 3200; Kylie Creech, fifth place in the 100 hurdles and fourth place in the 300 hurdles; the 400 relay team of Alaina Labar, Katherine Johnson, Hoath and Gillons, second place; the 800 freshman relay team of Lydia Goodwin, Carly Smith, Kiera Taylor and Gautsche, second place; the 800 relay team of Willow Austin, Lily Eyre, Katie Johnson, and Hoath, fourth place; the 1600 relay team of Austin, Hoath, Alissa Skirka, and Williams, third place; the 3200 relay team of Skirka, Williams, Gautsche, and Skyler Fraley, second place; and Kiera Taylor, fourth place in the pole vault.

Quincy’s third place finish was paced by one event winner as Lita Fulton brought home the crown in the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet, 0 inches.

Also earning some hardware for Quincy with a top five finish was Brookelyn Parker, second place in the 100 hurdles and second place in the 300 hurdles; the 400 relay team of Cheyenne Marske, Fulton, Abby Tinervia, and Kali Kugler, third place; the 800 freshman relay team of Isabelle Marske, Anniston Smullen, Hannah Harris, and Kugler, fourth place; the 1600 relay team of Kendyl Musielewicz, Parker, Fulton, and Elizabeth Craig, second place; the 3200 relay team of Charlotte Crabbs, Musielewicz, Raylee Fulton, and Katharina Paschke, third place; Khya Brewer, fourth place in the shot put; Hallie Jones, fifth place in the shot put; Abigail Miller, fifth place in the high jump; Brooke McVicker, second place in the pole vault; and Abby Tinervia, third place in the long jump.

Bronson girls brings home third place finish from Schoolcraft

BRONSON – The Bronson Viking girls track team brought home a third-place finish from Friday’s Schoolcraft Invite on Friday, finishing the day with a score of 76.33 points. Schoolcraft made it a clean sweep, winning their home invite with a score of 187.33, followed by Athens in second place with 87.33 points.

Bronson’s effort was led by a pair of gold medals, one coming in a field event while another came via a relay.

In the 400 relay, it was the team of Itzel Albarran, Addison Calloway, Miriam Sanchez, and Jaiden Hayes winning first place with 56.16 seconds.

Also bringing home the gold for Bronson was junior Jaiden Hayes who won the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 6.5 inches. Hayes also took second place in the 300 hurdles and third place in the 200.

Recapping the Bronson day with a top five finish was Itzel Albarran, third place in the 200 and fifth place in the long jump; Miriam Sanchez, third place in the 400; Abbi Ferry, fifth place in the 1600; Addison Calloway, second place in the pole vault; and Skylar Smith, second place in the high jump and fifth place in the discus.
