Unhappy with AMC Theatres’ new pricing plan? Here are your movie options in North Texas
AMC Theatres’ new pricing plan is troubling many moviegoers.
The theater chain announced “Sightline at AMC” on Monday, a new ticket pricing system based on the view patrons have of the movie screen. The new system is now used at select AMC locations and will expand to all AMC theaters by the end of 2023.
“Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood tweeted his displeasure at the policy — tweeting “The movie theater is and always has been a sacred democratic space for all.” Wood argues the policy has one price for “lower income” folks and another for more affluent ones. Thousands have since liked his tweet.
The movie theater is and always has been a sacred democratic space for all and this new initiative by @AMCTheatres would essentially penalize people for lower income and reward for higher income.

Essentially, AMC will offer moviegoers three options when buying tickets based on where they want to sit in the theater:
Value sightline- These tickets are for AMC Stubs members only and are the seats directly in front of the movie screen. These seats have the lowest price point of the new sightline plan.
Standard sightline- These tickets make up the majority of the movie theater auditorium. These seats are available for the traditional cost of a ticket.
Preferred sightline- These tickets make up the middle section of the auditorium, centering moviegoers in the theater. These seats are priced slightly higher than the standard sightline ticket.
The new sightline plan is only applied to showtimes that begin after 4 p.m. and is not available on discount Tuesdays at AMC.
