UNCW baseball handles College of Charleston, advances to CAA Tournament Championship game

UNCW baseball will play for a CAA Tournament title for the second consecutive season.

The Seahawks earned their second win in the double-elimination 2024 CAA Baseball Tournament Saturday, handling College of Charleston 8-5.

UNCW (38-19) started the game in style, scoring six first-inning runs as Tanner Thach hit a two-RBI single to open up the scoring.

The matchup that was initially scheduled for Friday night tightened up as Charleston made it 6-4 in the bottom of the third. UNCW would score again in the top of the fifth, but the Cougars responded as Garrick Murray hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-5.

UNCW scored the game's final run as Charleston's error on an Aiden Evans single-plated Kevin Jones in the top of the sixth. Seahawks pitcher RJ Sales threw six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

UNCW will play for the tournament title (Game 10) against either the College of Charleston or Delaware on Sunday at noon.

If the Seahawks lose Game 10, they'll play a winner-takes-all championship game Sunday afternoon.
