UMKC women’s basketball drops second straight conference game; men’s game postponed

Many of Wednesday’s Summit League contests were affected by Winter Storm Elliott, including the Kansas City Roos men’s and women’s basketball games.

The men’s game between the Roos and South Dakota State, scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in Kansas City, was postponed. A makeup date will be announced later.

The women’s game was moved to noon Wednesday in Brookings, S.D. And that contest was no match.

Behind a 31-4 burst in the first quarter, South Dakota State (9-5, 2-0 Summit League) cruised to an 86-54 win over Kansas City (4-9, 0-2).

Sanaa’ St. Andre and E’Lease Stafford both scored 19 points for the Roos, but it was not enough to keep up with the dominant Jackrabbits offense.

Four SDSU players scored in double figures. The hosts shot at least 50% in each of the first three quarters.

The Roos women’s team now gets the rest of the week off before returning to action at 7 p.m. Dec. 29 against Denver — KC’s first conference home game.

Tickets purchased for the originally scheduled men’s game can be used for the rescheduled game or exchanged for tickets to a different contest, the UMKC athletic department said in a news release. For further questions regarding ticket refunds or credits, contact Chris Garcia at garciacr@umkc.edu.
