UIL realignment 2024 cutoff numbers: Lubbock High to 5A DI, Cooper to 5A DII, Abernathy 2A
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) on Friday announced its cutoff numbers and football division numbers for the 2024 biennial realignment, which will be released in February.
Schools now know in which classification they will be placed.
Lubbock High, which is in Class 5A Division II for football, will move back up to 5A D-I. The Westerners were also 5A D-I in the previous cycle.
Lubbock-Cooper will do the opposite, moving from 5A D-I back to 5A D-II. The Pirates reached the 5A D-II state semifinals two seasons ago.
Estacado will move back to 4A D-II after two years in 4A D-I.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty will play its first varsity season of football also in 4A D-II.
Abernathy is the only 11-man South Plains school to change more than a division. The Antelopes will drop to Class 2A, including D-I for football.
Whiteface, with an enrollment of 108, will move up to 2A but continue to play six-man football. The Antelopes can compete in six-man because of a UIL policy that allows an alternate enrollment calculation for such situations, Whiteface athletic director Clint Linman confirmed Friday.
"We did that, because our eighth through 11th (grades) enrollment puts us at 101," Linman said, "so we'll still get to play six-man football but we'll go up to 2A in everything else."
Among other moves: Muleshoe and Slaton will move to 3A D-II, New Home will be 2A D-I, Farwell and Tahoka will be 2A D-II, Sands will be 1A D-II.
