U.S. Representative Hal Rogers 'in good condition' after Wednesday evening car accident

U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers was involved in a car accident on Wednesday in Washington D.C. and is well, according to a release from the congressman.

Rogers, who is Dean of the House, was involved in the accident after voting concluded in the evening but is "in good condition," the release stated. He is being treated by the Attending Physician of the United States Congress Dr. Brian P. Monahan.

“I’m thankful for the first responders and medical team who have thoroughly cared for me," Rogers said. "I’m avidly following doctor’s orders, while also working with my staff to ensure serving the people of Southern and Eastern Kentucky remains the first priority.”

Monahan said Rogers was admitted to the hospital for observation.

John Calipari, the head coach of the University of Kentucky's men's basketball team, said on social media that he spoke with the congressman and he wanted to talk about Saturday's game and the team.

"He’s banged up but doing good," Calipari said. "Let’s send out those BBN prayers to one of the all-time great Kentucky servants!!"

Rogers has served as the U.S. Representative for Kentucky's 5th congressional district since 1981. He is the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice and Science.
