All-world safety Tyrann Mathieu remains unsigned as we head into April and with the first big wave of free agency behind us. But as he continues to court potential offers from NFL teams, he revealed that one coach has been in touch with him.

Appearing on The Jordy Culotta Show, Mathieu confirmed that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been talking to him over the phone. While he didn’t state that they discussed the possibility of a deal, he expressed interest in the idea.

“It’s still cool talking to all coaches, the different coaches, cause some of these guys… Mike Tomlin calling your phone… He like, ‘Hey, oh this Mike T.’ You know, so just because able to talk to these guys, man, it’s a blessing too.”

The Steelers could certainly use a player like Tyrann Mathieu if he could be had at a good price. Pairing him with star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick

Tyrann Mathieu is coming off three very successful seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He earned two First-Team All-Pro selections and two Pro Bowls with them while winning a Super Bowl ring in 2019.

For his career, Mathieu has made three Pro Bowls and four All-Pro selections. He was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team as well.

But Mathieu also turns 30 this spring. He may not have the same kind of market now that he had in 2019 – or even just last year.

Would Tyrann Mathieu be a good fit for the Steelers?
