RAVENNA − Tyler Marovich has been appointed to serve Ward 2 on Ravenna City Council.

Marovich replaces Rob Kairis, who was appointed as president of council. Kairis replaced Andrew Kluge, who resigned, citing job and family commitments.

Council unanimously voted to appoint Marovich after two executive sessions during which Marovich and five others were interviewed. He is expected to take the oath of office at Monday's City Council meeting.

Kairis thanked all who submitted letters of interest and came in to be interviewed, saying all were qualified.

"It was not an easy decision," he said.

Council interviewed Larry Silenius, Ralph Townend, Mark Busher Sr. and Mindy Leonard in executive session last week. Greg Francis and Marovich were interviewed in executive session Monday.

Marovich is a graduate of Ravenna High School, and was involved in the Ravenna Youth Council as a student. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Kent State University. He also has served on the Portage County Historical Society's Board of Trustees, and was a member of the city's Charter Review Commission in 2017. He ran for Ravenna City Council in 2021.

He works for Healthpro-Heritage, where he is a corporate applications team lead.

"Ravenna has a fascinating history and has amazing people and resources in the community," he stated in his letter of interest. "I believe that a new perspective on how we can improve our weaknesses and showcase our strengths can make a significant improvement for quality of life for our future residents."

Both Kairis and Marovich must run in the next municipal election next year if they wish to stay in office.

A seventh candidate also sought the appointment, but submitted a letter of interest after the application deadline, and was not interviewed.
