Has Tyler Kolek's injury knocked Marquette off the 2-seed line? Here's how bracket projections see it.

A loss to Creighton without its two best players wasn't enough to knock Marquette out of the Associated Press top 10, though news that point guard Tyler Kolek will miss at least the rest of the regular season raises some concern in Milwaukee.

But has the situation changed enough where bracket projections drop Marquette off the 2-seed line? There had been near-unanimous belief that MU would enter the tournament as a 2 last week before the setbacks.

The short answer: Nope. Marquette is still stacking up as a No. 2 seed in the latest early week bracketology, and those who project locations still believe MU will hoop it up relatively close to home in Indianapolis.

Jerry Palm of CBS: Marquette against No. 15 South Dakota State

Jerry Palm of CBS keeps Marquette as a No. 2 seed, with a draw in Indianapolis against 15th-seeded South Dakota State.

The Summit League frontrunner SDSU is led by Zeke Mayo (19.3 points, 3.6 assists per game) and also has a couple Wisconsin-connected players on the roster. That includes Matthew Mors, a former Wisconsin Badgers player who transferred out after the 2021-22 season.

Mors has appeared in 31 games this year and averages 11 minutes per contest, with 3.7 points per game.

True freshman William Whorton of Milwaukee King doesn't see the floor for the Jackrabbits.

USA TODAY: Marquette against No. 15 Oakland

USA TODAY slots MU with a No. 2 seed and has predicted a meeting with Horizon League qualifier Oakland (15th seed) in Indianapolis. It's the Golden Eagles vs. the Golden Grizzlies. Perhaps Ben Gold will hit a big shot.

Oakland's roster includes Pewaukee native Jack Gohlke (12.0 points per game), while Trey Townsend (16.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals) leads the Horizon League frontrunner in four categories.

The Horizon League Tournament gets under way Tuesday, with semifinals in Indianapolis on Monday, March 11, and the final on March 12.

Joe Lunardi of ESPN: Marquette vs. No. 15 Sam Houston

ESPN's bracketologist Joe Lunardi has a third opponent for Marquette — Sam Houston, a team battling with Louisiana Tech atop Conference USA, tied for first place.

Patrick Stevens of Washington Post: Marquette vs. No. 15 Eastern Washington

Here's one more No. 2 seed, with Big Sky Conference representative Eastern Washington as the No. 15 squad facing MU in Indianapolis. It's led by Cedric Coward, who averages a team-best 15.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

"Marquette will probably end up as a No. 2 or No. 3 seed after its loss at Creighton," Stevens wrote. "The Golden Eagles’ path to a No. 1 seed is probably blocked after failing to pick off either the Bluejays or Connecticut on the road."

Bill Bender of The Sporting News also sees Marquette as a No. 2 seed. So does Fox Sports.

Marquette women holding on to at-large status in Charlie Creme's projections

The Marquette women, meanwhile, have been downgraded to "last four byes" status by Charlie Creme of ESPN, meaning he thinks they're in danger of winding up in a play-in game. For now, Marquette is the No. 10 seed, facing off with No. 7 Michigan State in Austin.

Creme has UW-Green Bay as the last team into the field as an at-large qualifier. Green Bay, of course, can also win the Horizon League Tournament and remove all doubt.
