Tyler Bates will resign as Loudonville girls basketball coach at end of year

After coming off a season where he led the Redbirds to the most wins in school history (26) and the program's first state tournament appearance since 1992, Tyler Bates has said that he will step down as the Loudonville girl's basketball head coach after the team's banquet in early April.

He will also resign as the athletic director and Dean of Students at Loudonville High School at the end of the school year.

Bates said that he informed his team and sent a message out to the player's parents of the news on Monday morning.

"While working at Loudonville, God has put some amazing players, coaches, families and colleagues in my life," said Bates, in an email on Monday afternoon. "Having the opportunity to share some of the positive memories with my family and friends is something that I'll be forever grateful for."

Bates spent 11 years as the girls basketball head coach at Loudonville and compiled a 202-69 record, which are both a Loudonville school and Ashland County record.

"While I don't know what the next chapter of my life looks like professionally, I am positive that I have a lot of coaching left in me and I am hopeful that I can find another school district where I can positively impact the educational process," Bates said.

Under Bates' tenure, Loudonville won eight straight Mid-Buckeye Conference titles (2017-2024), coached six 1,000 point scorers in − Corri Vermilya (2407); Emily Seboe (1588); Grace Vermilya (1392); Nikki Weber (1296); Shalen Guilliams (1206); Celeste Ryman (1065) − and had 10 players play at the collegiate level.

As the Dean of Students, Loudonville was viewed as "one of the top academic teams in the state of Ohio on numerous occasions."
