Two women shot behind Rochester bank; investigation underway

Two women were shot behind the Five Star Bank Building on Chestnut Street in downtown Rochester early Wednesday morning, according to Rochester police.

The two women were each shot at least once in the lower body during an early morning encounter near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at Manhattan Square. The women were not in the park, where the fight took place, but were behind the bank, which is located across the street from the park at 100 Chestnut St. The shooting occured around 1 a.m., said Lt. Anthony DelVecchio of the Rochester Police Department.

Both women are being treated at Rochester area hospitals for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, DelVecchio said.

One woman - a Rochester resident who is in her 30s - was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance and the other - a Greece woman in her 20s - was taken to Rochester General Hospital by private vehicle, he said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the shooting, DelVecchio said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911.
