Durham police are still looking for the drivers of vehicles that hit two pedestrians over the weekend and then drove off.

One of the pedestrians died shortly after the crash; the other was hospitalized with serious injuries and died later.

The first was hit shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Timothy Wright, 35, was crossing North Miami Boulevard near Raynor Street when he was hit by what witnesses described as an SUV. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police announced Tuesday morning that Wright had died.

The vehicle that hit Wright also hit a pole before driving off. Police believe it was involved in another crash a short time later on Holloway Street near Herbert Street and Interstate 885.

Witnesses said the SUV was dark blue and likely a Jeep Grand Cherokee with North Carolina plates. Police say the vehicle was damaged, particularly in the front right corner, the hood area and the back, and that several parts, including a bumper, may be missing.

The second pedestrian was hit shortly after 5 a.m. on North Roxboro Street, between Club Boulevard and Ellerbe Street, by a small car that was going north. The man was taken to a hospital where he died. Police have not released his name.

A witness told police that the car may have been a light gray or light blue Chevy Sonic or something similar.

Police say it’s also possible the man had been hit by another car first. They say that car may have been a 2014 to 2016 Lexus or Toyota sport sedan that likely has damage to its driver-side headlight and is missing a black front bumper hole plug.
