Two officers injured after car pursuit and crash in Yonkers: Police

Yonkers police said two officers were injured after a police pursuit ended in a car crash in Yonkers early Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Robert Spink said Yonkers police were alerted by the Westchester County Real-Time Crime Center just after midnight Tuesday morning that a vehicle entered the city of Yonkers that was the subject of multiple NYPD investigations. The vehicle had previously fled from both the NYPD and Yonkers police.

Spink said officers found the vehicle near the intersection of Warburton Ave. and Manor House Square. The driver of the vehicle, Bronx resident Alex Torres, attempted to flee and struck a Yonkers police car head-on.

Two officers were injured and are currently in stable condition at a local hospital. Spink said Torres sustained a minor laceration to his head and was released from a local hospital after being treated.

Torres is charged with second-degree assault, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless driving. Spink said an investigation is ongoing.
