LOXAHATCHEE — Two Loxahatchee men died Sunday when the SUV in which they were riding drove into a canal near the Panther National Golf Club community, police said.

Colton Peter Gearhart, 21, and Sebastian Constatin Gedroye, also 21, were pulled from a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban that was submerged in the canal at 130th Avenue North and Hamlin Boulevard just after 12:15 p.m. Sunday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said the Suburban, which was being driven by Gearhart, was heading westbound on Hamlin approaching 130th Avenue. The driver attempted to make a left turn south onto 130th, but was going too fast, and the SUV skidded off the road to the right, over the dirt road and onto the grass shoulder.

The vehicle then kept sliding over the shoulder and plunged into the canal, deputies said.

A driver passing by called 911, saying they had seen the vehicle in the canal, but did not see the accident. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue divers were in the water three minutes after arrival, and extricated Gearhart and Gedroye. Paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene, Fire Rescue said.
