Two killed when big rig broadsides car in Fresno County, CHP says. Victims identified

The two 24-year-olds who were killed in a crash with a big rig over the weekend were identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Ray Rodarte of Del Rey and Ayala Gonzales of Fresno were in a Nissan Altima when they were fatally struck broadside by a big rig.

The California Highway Patrol said the Altima was headed north on DeWolf Avenue at the intersection of North Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Altima stopped at the intersection but entered the roadway for an unknown reason as a 2019 Freightliner approached while headed east without a stop sign.

The big rig hit the Altima on the driver’s side, causing fatal injuries to both victims.

The truck driver was not injured.

The CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.
