Two injured in light aircraft crash at Leeds East Airport

Two men in their 70s have been injured when the light aircraft they were in crashed, police said.

Emergency services were called to Leeds East Airport, formerly RAF Church Fenton, near Tadcaster just after 17:00 BST on Thursday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews found the aircraft on its roof and two men were taken to hospital with injuries.

An investigation into the crash was under way, North Yorkshire Police said.

According to the fire service, crews from Tadcaster, Selby, Acomb and York attended and assisted in "making the light fixed-wing aircraft safe".

First aid was given to the plane's occupants before the arrival of paramedics and the incident was left in the hands of the police and airport management company, the fire service added.

The BBC has contacted the Air Accidents Investigation Branch for further information.
