Suspect apprehended on suspicion of shooting wife and her sibling in Franklin hotel attack

Franklin Police Department officials said they arrested a suspected shooter in a Saturday night attack at a hotel that injured his wife and his wife's sibling.

Cody Wiggins, 29, of Florida, is suspected of opening fire on his family members with a semi-automatic handgun at the Marriott of Cool Springs in Franklin at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

Witnesses called police to report an active shooter, but the suspect fled before they arrived.

Franklin officers quickly spread out around the area of 700 Cool Springs Boulevard.

"Upon arrival, several officers began rendering aid to two victims. The shooter had left the scene," Franklin Police Department spokesperson Milissa Reierson said. "Officers immediately saturated the area. The suspect was located on foot in a nearby subdivision."

During the search, they apprehended Wiggins, who was in town with family for a wedding.

The two victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Their condition has not yet been provided.

"The shooter is in police custody at this time," Franklin Police Department wrote on X. "Further details will be released once they become available."

The motive for the attack is unknown. Police booked Wiggins in Williamson County jail on suspicion of felony charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated domestic assault, and tampering with evidence.
